Develops and documents low-level designs for FPGA design modules and hardware subsystems based upon higher-level designs and internal goals concerning maintainability, extendibility, reliability, testability, and efficiency. Develops high-level and critical architecture for FPGA design and leads team activities for development team. Conducts investigation of hardware anomalies in association with the functional test team, customer support team, or other group (possibly including customer) as needed. Debugs and corrects anomalies. Participates and leads team in Design for Six Sigma principals for Failure Mode and Effects Analysis. Leads design architecture, analysis and test plans activities. Leads interviews with marketing, technical support as part of requirement refinement process as required. Stays current and well informed on hardware engineering methodologies and technologies germane to the company's industry through personal research, training and seminar participation. Maintains and consistently applies knowledge of current policies, procedures, and standards pertaining to technical and administrative issues. Leads updates to the policies, procedures and standards for the improvement of department productivity and customer satisfaction. Leads in the design of FPGA design modules and hardware subsystems that fulfill the implementation requirement of the product and maximizes the reuse of existing internal or external solution in order to shorten the product development cycle and maintain high quality. Participates and leads analysis for IEC 61508 Functional Safety design analysis. Assumes technical leadership of small team and/or mentoring of new engineers. Establishes and maintains a detailed work breakdown and schedule for portions of control hardware projects. Works with the managers and development team to determine the contents of milestones and incorporate this data into the schedule. Ensures development teams participation in the review of requirements and design specifications that may impact the team's area of responsibility.
Required: Bachelors degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering or New Product Management, and five (5) years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience as an Engineer. In lieu of a Bachelors degree and five years of experience, the employer will accept a Masters degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering or New Product Management and three (3) years of experience as an Engineer. Employer will accept any suitable combination of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree and five years of experience or a Master's degree and three years of experience. As part of the experience being required, applicants must have had: experience with electrical and electro-mechanical circuits and systems in all three of the disciplines of analog, digital, and power using simulation tools and procedures, including ADCs, DACs, 32bit ARM based microcontrollers, FPGAs (Field Programmable Gate Arrays), opto-couplers, operational amplifiers, BJT (Bi-polar Junction Transistors) and other electronic parts using RoHS compliant components in hardware design for AC Drives; experience in all aspects of product development, including gathering and analyzing requirements, determining design and implementation strategy, work-breakdown, resource assessment, prototyping, testing and qualification for hardware in AC Drive applications; experience in analyzing malfunctioning electrical and electro-mechanical circuits or systems and assessing root cause and subsequent cost effective resolution for hardware in AC Drive applications; experience assisting manufacturing in the resolution of test and manufacturing issues for products, and assisting field service in the resolution of field application issues with respect to product performance and system design; experience working with third-party development resources in design development according to Product Development Processes; experience working with U.L., C.S.A., and CE Standards for Electrical Printed Circuit Board design for Control hardware in AC Drive applications; experience with Agency requirements, including UL508 and EN61800-3, UL61800-5 product specific standards; experience with EtherNet Dual-Port and Device Level Ring technology and implementation in AC Drive application; experience with Digital Signal Processing and Digital Filter implementation using digital logic design in FPGAs; experience with Encoder Feedback application and with Encoder Feedback communication schemes, including DSL, SSI, EnDat in AC Drive application; experience with IEC 61508 Functional Safety related application for hardware design in AC Drive applications; experience with Altera Quartus tools, Minitab, Mentor Graphics ModelSim, Hyperlinx, Design Capture, Dx Designer, and Expedition; experience with hardware Description Languages, including VHDL for FPGA design; experience with analyzing EMC susceptibility, emissions and mitigation principles for power conversion products; experience in Design for Six Sigma principals for Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, Statistics, Robust Design and Reliability; and experience in leading the New Product Development Process for hardware solutions.
